Project Natal: Gaming Redefined

Gaming has undergone several massive transformations in the past few years. Peripherals (control devices) have been completely re-invented, as in Nintendo’s Wii Remote, Nunchuck, Wii Balance Board, and Wii Speak. These peripherals invite a new demographic of non-traditional gamers to come and play. Console makers and video game developers are both gearing a cornucopia of new games and accessories towards this fledgling market. Casual gamers, as they are called in the gaming community, are a fast-growing population. People young and old alike are gaming today because games are changing.
Never to be left in the dust or one-upped, Microsoft recently released details about its upcoming Project Natal, an unbelievably sophisticated system of cameras, microphones, and microchips. This new XBOX 360 peripheral is stated to be capable of real-time face, voice, and spatial recognition, as well as motion capturing. So what does all this mean? Now you are the controller.
Are you the type of person who wildly twists controllers in the air, hoping to achieve an additional effect? This is for you.
The motion sensing capabilities will allow natural physical movements and gestures as input. Your hands, feet, fingers, and voice are all ways of controlling games with Project Natal. This opens up an entirely new world of gaming that never existed before. Not only does Microsoft’s new peripheral promise to change the way people game, entertainment itself could look and feel radically different within the next few years. Imagine scrolling through your music or movie library by flicking your hand through the air, or playing your favorite song with a voice command. The possibilities are endless, and judging by the reactions of consumers at the E3 expo, the technology works exceedingly well. Another compelling aspect of this new technology is its planned compatibility with any XBOX 360. That means no new expensive console to buy if you want to use Project Natal.
